In this post, we’ll share some of the best things to do in this coastal paradise, courtesy of those who call it home!<\/p>\n

1. Spend an Afternoon on the Patio at We Olive & Wine Bar<\/strong><\/h2>\n

“We Olive La Jolla is a must-visit destination,” he says. “Guests can experience California’s rich flavors through daily complimentary tastings of the bar’s exquisite California Extra Virgin Olive Oils and gourmet vinegars. It also features California small-production artisan wines, olive oil-inspired tapas, and craft beer. The venue is known for hosting events that celebrate local artisans and producers, and the stunning ocean and coastal views from the outdoor patios make it a perfect spot for locals and visitors to unwind and savor the flavors of California.”<\/p>\n

2. Commune with Nature at the Torrey Pines State Reserve<\/strong><\/h2>\n

“A trip to San Diego isn’t complete until you’ve visited the Torrey Pines State Reserve,” says San Diego urban adventure guru and founder of\u00a0The Go Deck<\/a>, Deanna Ratnikova.<\/p>\n

“Located atop majestic bluffs and named after the extremely rare Torrey pine tree that grows here, the reserve is home to some of the most acclaimed and scenic trails in San Diego, ranging from accessible strolls to heart-pumping hikes.<\/p>\n

Start your visit at the Visitor Center housed within a 1920s historic lodge. Here, you can learn about free guided tours and pick up a trail map. After looking for dolphins or gray whales from the clifftop viewing platforms, head down to the Torrey Pines State Beach, which stretches over 4 miles. You could walk as far South as La Jolla Shores at low tide, a 10-mile roundtrip trek! For those with mobility needs, there is a beach wheelchair available at both the North and South parking lot kiosks.<\/p>\n

When you’re ready for lunch, take a short drive south to discover Torrey Pines Gliderport. Fuel up at their caf\u00e9 while watching gliders soar off and around the cliffs. It’s more than just a market; it’s a sensory experience that embodies the essence of community.”<\/p>\n

Evering gave us some excellent suggestions for outdoor exploration in the city, too.\u00a0“For aquatic enthusiasts, Mission Bay (the country’s largest aquatic park) is a great place to start. You can never go wrong with sailing into the sunset, kayaking along its shores, or simply soaking up the sun on the beach. It’s a tranquil retreat where the rhythm of the waves harmonizes with the pace of life. If you like hiking, the diverse landscapes of Mission Trails Park offer a great escape. With its rugged terrains and serene lakes, you’ll never run out of great scenery to enjoy.”<\/p>\n

“Cabrillo National Park, perched high above the city, is my go-to for breathtaking views,” Evering adds. “The panoramic spectacle is complemented by a hike down to the tide pools along the Pacific Ocean. It’s a seamless blend of scenic grandeur and a touch of adventure, offering a moment of quiet reflection amidst nature’s awe-inspiring beauty.”<\/p>\n

6. Get Centered & Calm at the Self-Realization Meditation Gardens<\/strong><\/h2>\n

“Tucked just off the busy Coast Highway, the Garden offers meticulously maintained tranquil gardens, replete with a koi pond and boasting stunning views from a cliff overlooking the Pacific Ocean. This peaceful place is perfect for meditation, self-reflection, and rejuvenation. As a cultural photographer, I sometimes visit here with a camera in hand, but most of the time, I visit for no other reason than to take a quiet stroll in the simple tranquillity of the surroundings. Treat yourself to a visit to this serene oasis and experience the rejuvenating power it holds. You won’t be disappointed!”<\/p>\n

Good to know<\/strong>: Entrance to the gardens is free (that’s right, free!). There is also an adjacent gift shop with interesting books, clothing and various gift items from India that are also worth a browse. In winter, you can stay late enough to enjoy beautiful sunsets (gardens close at 5 PM).<\/p>\n

7. Enjoy Fresh Seafood on the Bay<\/strong><\/h2>\n
