But you will want to avoid stuffing furniture and boxes into the space without some forethought. Cardboard boxes are fine as long as they are sturdy, but plastic bins with removable lids are easy to open and reseal.<\/li>\n
  3. Cover mattresses, furniture and other items that could get scratched, dirty or damaged.<\/li>\n
  4. Dismantle furniture, when possible, to get the most out of your storage space<\/a>. Use empty areas such as drawers and filing cabinets for storing small items.<\/li>\n
  5. Plan out the space on paper before you get there, making room for larger, heavier items on the floor and stacking lighter items on top. Measure your furniture and boxes as you consider the total space available in a 10’x20′ unit \u2014 200 square feet of floor space and 1,600 cubic feet overall. Take advantage of that vertical floor-to-ceiling space.<\/li>\n

    5. Shelves can add much-needed vertical storage space. Take advantage of bookcases or buy a shelving unit for smaller items.<\/li>\n
