Regular surfboards \u2014 or \u2018shortboards\u2019 \u2014 are often between 6\u2032 and 7\u00bd\u2019 long and about 20\u2033 wide, while \u2018funboards,\u2019 which are more suitable for beginners, tend to be longer. Racing \u2018longboards\u2019 and \u2018stand-up paddleboards\u2019 can reach up to 12\u2019, while windsurfing boards may sometimes exceed that. Serious enthusiasts have at least four boards in their \u2018quiver,\u2019 their regular one for use 70-80% of the time, a backup regular board, a longer one for big waves, and a stubbier one for \u2018messy\u2019 wave conditions.
