{"id":114063,"date":"2021-04-08T05:51:21","date_gmt":"2021-04-08T12:51:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.rentcafe.com\/blog\/?p=114063"},"modified":"2026-02-18T05:26:06","modified_gmt":"2026-02-18T13:26:06","slug":"how-much-space-you-can-rent-for-1400-in-these-57-pennsylvania-cities","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.rentcafe.com\/blog\/local-resources\/how-much-space-you-can-rent-for-1400-in-these-57-pennsylvania-cities\/","title":{"rendered":"How Much Space You Can Rent for $1,400 in These 57 Pennsylvania Cities"},"content":{"rendered":"<ul>\n<li><strong>For $1,400, you\u2019ll get about 7% more apartment space in Pennsylvania than the 829 square foot average in the 100 most populous U.S. cities.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Of the 57 Pennsylvania cities included in our research, Greensburg and Philadelphia had the largest and smallest apartments, respectively, for $1,400.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Use the\u00a0<a href=\"#calculator\">calculator<\/a>\u00a0at the end of the article to find out how much space you can rent in Pennsylvania, whatever your budget.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Undeniably, space is something that we all came to appreciate in the past year during the pandemic, as it became\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.rentcafe.com\/blog\/rental-market\/real-estate-news\/one-year-later-pandemic-shifts-renters-priorities-as-more-space-beats-cheaper-survey-shows\/\">increasingly more\u00a0important<\/a>\u00a0for everyone, especially apartment dwellers.<\/p>\n<p>So,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.rentcafe.com\/\">RentCafe<\/a>\u00a0analysts reviewed how much space you could rent across Pennsylvania for $1,400, which is close to the state\u2019s average monthly rent of $1,396. Based on Yardi Matrix data \u2014 and a bit of research \u2014 we\u2019ve highlighted the cities where apartments offer the most and least bang for your buck.<\/p>\n<p>It turns out that Pennsylvania is a great place to call home, as most cities here offer rather spacious apartments. On average, you can get 890 sq. ft. of living space for $1,400 in the state, more than the 829 sq. ft. you can rent for the same amount in the top 100 most populous cities. This means that Pennsylvania apartments offer 7% more space for the same price.<\/p>\n<p>We put together the following infographic, which compares apartment sizes in the 57 Pennsylvania cities included in our study. The size of the tiles represents the actual proportion of apartment space available for $1,400.<\/p>\n<p><script id=\"infogram_0_a5cebf5f-adf3-432c-90bf-38d1df47ae4f\" title=\"PA How much you can rent\" src=\"https:\/\/e.infogram.com\/js\/dist\/embed.js?HKA\" type=\"text\/javascript\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>Throughout the state, the size of apartments you can rent on a $1,400 budget varies from 676 sq. ft. in Philly to more than twice as much space in Greensburg (1,540). Falling on opposite ends of our ranking, these two Pennsylvania cities are also located in opposite parts of the state at a 270 miles distance from one another, with Philly in the East and Greensburg in the West.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Top 5 Cities with Most Apartment Space for $1,400<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Greensburg, located in the Pittsburgh metro, is where you can find the most apartment space in the state, of 1,540 sq. ft., for that fixed amount. The city has an average rent of $770 \u2014 one of the lowest in Pennsylvania \u2014 making this community of almost 14,000 people an affordable and desirable place to live in.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, $1,400 can also pay for generous amounts of square footage in other cities, like Oakdale (1,364) \u2014 which is just outside of Pittsburgh \u2014, as well as Carlisle (1,294), a city 120 miles West of Philly. Lebanon and Camp Hill also made the top 5, with 1,219 sq. ft. and 1,214 sq. ft., respectively.<\/p>\n<p>All of these cities boast local average rents between $770 and $1,221 \u2014 below the state\u2019s average \u2014 making them great choices for those looking for ample apartment space and lower rents.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Top 5 Cities with Least Apartment Space for $1,400<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Conversely, the least space you can get for the same money in Pennsylvania is usually in cities where rents are higher, but overall the quality of apartments is better and they are generally considered to be more desirable locations. For example, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rentcafe.com\/apartments-for-rent\/philadelphia-pa\/\">Philadelphia apartments<\/a>\u00a0\u2014 where rents go for an average of $1,661 a month \u2014 offer around 676 sq. ft. for $1,400.<\/p>\n<p>Next up are Wynnewood and Bryn Mawr, both in the Philadelphia Metro and among the cities in the state where you get less space for that money, but you&#8217;ll live in some of the most sought-after locations. Specifically, in Wynnewood you get only 685 sq. ft. and in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rentcafe.com\/apartments-for-rent\/bryn-mawr-pa\/\">Bryn Mawr apartments<\/a>, only 742 sq. ft. for the monthly rent of $1,400.<\/p>\n<p>The top 5 is closed by Conshohocken and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rentcafe.com\/apartments-for-rent\/media-pa\/\">Media apartments<\/a> where the same amount will get you smaller apartments of 759 sq. ft. and 764 sq. ft., respectively. So, if you do decide to choose one of these cities, know that you\u2019ll need to shell out between $1,552 and $1,988 for the monthly rent. On the plus side, you\u2019ll be enjoying better locations, so that\u2019s definitely something worth considering.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>What You Can Rent for $1,400 in the Top Largest Pennsylvania Metros<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Here\u2019s how much space you can get for $1,400 in Pennsylvania\u2019s top two largest metros:<\/p>\n<p><script id=\"infogram_0_943f5848-2a44-4efb-a3f1-44be9d641b3c\" title=\"PA Top Metros How much you can rent\" src=\"https:\/\/e.infogram.com\/js\/dist\/embed.js?V1j\" type=\"text\/javascript\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>In the\u00a0<strong>Philadelphia metro,<\/strong>\u00a0Pottstown apartments tend to offer more living space for that money. Here, you can get 992 sq. ft. for the monthly rent of $1,400. Warminster and Horsham also prove to be great cities to live in because the space you could get here would also be substantially large of 967 sq. ft. and 957 sq. ft., respectively.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, the cities that offer the least space in the Philadelphia metro are Philadelphia (676 sq. ft.), Wynnewood (685) and Bryn Mawr (742).<\/p>\n<p>In the\u00a0<strong>Pittsburgh metro<\/strong>, the top cities that offer the largest space for $1,400 are Greensburg (1,540 sq. ft.), Oakdale (1,364 sq. ft.) and Monroeville (1,202).<\/p>\n<p>On the flipside, Pittsburgh is where you\u2019ll find the least space in the metro, of 911 sq. ft.
