Based on Yardi Matrix data \u2014 and a bit of research \u2014 we\u2019ve highlighted the cities where apartments offer the most and least bang for your buck.<\/p>\n<p>It turns out that Minnesota is a great place to call home, as most cities here offer rather spacious apartments. On average, you can get 915 sq. ft. of living space for $1,400 in the state, more than the 829 sq. ft. you can rent for the same amount in the top 100 most populous cities. This means that Minnesota apartments offer 10% more space for the same price.<\/p>\n<p>We put together the following infographic, which compares apartment sizes in the 38 Minnesota cities included in our study. The size of the tiles represents the actual proportion of apartment space available for $1,400.<\/p>\n<p><script id=\"infogram_0_03c0f38a-5f39-4ead-a5e5-836a0be7be5f\" title=\"MN How much you can rent\" src=\"https:\/\/e.infogram.com\/js\/dist\/embed.js?dWU\" type=\"text\/javascript\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>Throughout the state, the size of apartments you can rent on a $1,400 budget varies from 709 sq. ft. in Minneapolis to more than twice as much space in St. Cloud (1,446). Notably, although they fall on opposite ends of our ranking, these two Minnesota cities are only 65 miles apart in the South-Eastern part of the state.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Top 5 Cities with Most Apartment Space for $1,400<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>St. Cloud, located in the St. Cloud metro, is where you can find the most apartment space in the state, of 1,446 sq. ft., for that fixed amount. The city has an average rent of $887 \u2014 one of the lowest in Minnesota \u2014 making this community of almost 68,000 people an affordable place to live in.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, $1,400 can also pay for generous amounts of square footage in other cities, like Waite Park (1,402) \u2014 which is just outside of Minneapolis \u2014, as well as Sartell (1,315), a city adjacent to St. Cloud. New Hope and Anoka also made the top 5, with 1,102 sq. ft. and 1,097 sq. ft., respectively.<\/p>\n<p>All of these cities boast local average rents between $887 and $1,168 \u2014 below the state\u2019s average \u2014 making them great choices for those looking for ample apartment space and lower rents.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Top 5 Cities with Least Apartment Space for $1,400<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Conversely, the least space you can get for the same money in Minnesota is usually in cities where rents are higher, but overall the quality of apartments is better and they are generally considered to be more desirable locations. For example, Minneapolis \u2014 where rents go for an average of $1,555 a month \u2014 offers around 709 sq. ft. for $1,400.<\/p>\n<p>Next up are Golden Valley and Edina \u2014 only 8 miles away from one another in the Minneapolis metro \u2014 are both among the cities in the state where you get less space for that money, but you\u2019ll live in some of the most sought-after locations. Specifically, in Golden Valley you get only 794 sq. ft. and in Edina, only 830 sq. ft. for the monthly rent of $1,400.<\/p>\n<p>The top 5 is closed by St. Louis Park and Lakeville where the same amount will get you smaller apartments of 846 sq. ft. and 854 sq. ft., respectively. So, if you do decide to choose one of these cities, know that you\u2019ll need to shell out between $1,487 and $1,666 for the monthly rent. On the plus side, you\u2019ll be enjoying better locations with proximity to Minneapolis, so that\u2019s definitely something worth considering.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>What You Can Rent for $1,400 in Minnesota&#8217;s Largest Metro<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Here\u2019s how much space you can get for $1,400 in Minnesota\u2019s largest metro:<\/p>\n<p><script id=\"infogram_0_80311e45-b26a-421d-9df1-c6de7b62f369\" title=\"MN Chicago Metro How much you can rent\" src=\"https:\/\/e.infogram.com\/js\/dist\/embed.js?v5q\" type=\"text\/javascript\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>In the\u00a0<strong>Minneapolis metro,<\/strong>\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.rentcafe.com\/apartments-for-rent\/new-hope-mn\/\">New Hope apartments<\/a> tend to offer more living space for that money. Here, you can get 1,102 sq. ft. for the monthly rent of $1,400.
