Adams Morgan was known for its eclectic mix of restaurants, clubs and bars long before multiculturalism became so popular. It boasts a mix of Latino, African and Asian influence, among others.<\/p>\n

Admired for its row houses, many of which are brightly painted, some featuring interesting artwork and murals, Adams Morgan is the place to enjoy a range of unique off-the-beaten-track offerings. From great boutique shops, international restaurants and clubs, great dance spots, to eclectic delights, like empanadas and falafels.<\/p>\n

Where is Adams Morgan?<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Adams Morgan is located in Northwest, Washington, D.C., between 18th Street and Columbia Road, not far from Dupont Circle and the National Zoo (which is located in Woodley Park). Although those are the main strips, it extends to Florida Avenue and Connecticut Avenue where it borders Dupont Circle, and 16th Street where it borders Columbia Heights, as well as Harvard Street near Mount Pleasant.<\/p>\n

It contains both residential and commercial areas and has long been known for its multiculturalism, as well as its happening nightlife scene, especially the bars, restaurants and clubs that line 18th Street. Columbia Road is quieter with more shops and other businesses.<\/p>\n

History<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Adams Morgan got its name from two formerly segregated elementary schools in the late 1950s. It incorporated at that time joining several older neighborhoods which date back to the late 1800s and early 1900s.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s always been a melting pot of many cultures and influences and is known for its excellent and diverse cuisine and nightlife.<\/p>\n

Check out The LINE which is a hotel\/restaurant housed in a 110-year-old church, featuring great chefs like Erik Bruner-Yang and Spike Gjerde. Not only will you enjoy the architecture, but you are sure to have a great meal. Or browse an independent bookstore such as Idle Time Books for something great to read. It carries many out-of-print books as well as hard to find CDs.<\/p>\n

If you like to shop, take a look at\u00a0Urban Dwell on Columbia Road, which offers lots of unique odds and ends for the house, as well as personal accessories. It\u2019s a great place to find a gift for the person who has everything. Try a vintage clothing store like Meeps if you are searching for a costume or just want a bargain on often very high-end apparel.<\/p>\n
