Over the last decade or so, Charlotte has seen many of its neighborhoods transformed with high-end energy \u2014 NoDa, South End, Plaza Midwood and now, Steele Creek! With developers and Charlotteans alike sensing its potential, this community has been deemed Queen City’s next hot thing for a while now. This sleepy little suburb of the city has recently turned into one of the most sought-after neighborhoods in town.<\/p>\n

Where is Steele Creek?<\/h3>\n

\"SteeleAbout 15 minutes from Uptown, Steele Creek is located in the extreme southwestern corner of Mecklenburg county, nearly jumping over in South Carolina, Steele Creek still mostly resides within Charlotte city limits. This neighborhood is outside the 485 loop, bordered by Lake Wylie and the Catawba River.<\/p>\n

Carowinds Boulevard also runs through the neighborhood. Access to I-77 is easy, and other major thoroughfares through Steele Creek include NC 49 and NC 160.<\/p>\n

History<\/h3>\n

\"SteeleIt\u2019s believed that the name \u201cSteele\u201d came from the original immigrants in the area back in the 17th and 18th centuries. It was a Scotch-Irish family surname which was then also given to the small creek. Eventually, the area became the Steele Creek Township \u2014 one of the original 15 in Mecklenburg County.<\/p>\n

When NC changed their annex laws in the 1950s, a large portion of Steele Creek Township was annexed by the city. It was all uphill from there, but it was in the early 2000s that the neighborhood really saw a boom in both population and infrastructure.<\/p>\n

Lifestyle<\/h3>\n

\"SteeleIn just a short time, the boom in population and industry took what was mostly rural farmland and turned it into a bustling pocket of Charlotte, with entertainment and housing opportunities.<\/p>\n

What to do<\/strong><\/p>\n

Many people around the city are already familiar with the Steele Creek neighborhood due to the Charlotte Premium Outlets which popped up in 2014. This shopping destination includes more than 100 brand and designer outlet stores like Coach, Michael Kors, Nike and Converse, to name a few.<\/p>\n

For those that want some sports entertainment, Top Golf is generally the destination of choice. This facility offers more than 100 climate-controlled bays for hitting the green. Plus, there is a full-service restaurant, several bars, hundreds of TVs for catching other games, plus a rooftop terrace complete with a firepit.<\/p>\n
