Instead, keep healthy snacks readily available and in sight. If you often look in your <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rentcafe.com\/blog\/apartmentliving\/upgrade-your-rental-home-with-these-cool-gadgets\/\">fridge<\/a> for snacks, make ready-to-eat healthy snacks the first thing you see when opening the fridge.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Similarly, <strong>Lexi Endicott, <\/strong>registered dietitian and culinary nutrition specialist at <a href=\"https:\/\/totaste.com\/\">To Taste<\/a>, gives this practical healthy eating tip: \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.rentcafe.com\/blog\/apartmentliving\/tips-tricks-renters\/cook-store-shop-food-quarantine\/\">Stock your pantry<\/a>, fridge and freezer with healthy ingredients: whole grains, beans, fruits, veggies, nuts, seeds, lean proteins and healthy oils. That starts you on a blood sugar roller coaster all day, giving you a quick boost followed by a crash and more cravings.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Instead, try to keep <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rentcafe.com\/blog\/home-and-garden\/tropical-fruits-to-grow-in-apartment\/\">fruits<\/a>, veggies and nuts on hand, and reach for these when you get the munchies.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHealthy snacks will keep your energy high, your focus sharp, improve your mood and keep off those extra pounds,\u201d Furlong said.<\/p>\n<h2>Optimize Your Grocery List<\/h2>\n<p>\u201cEating healthy, cutting cooking time, reducing your food waste and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rentcafe.com\/blog\/apartmentliving\/frugal-living-tips-renters\/\">saving money<\/a> on your food expenses all start with an optimized grocery list,\u201d said <strong>Kel Reed<\/strong>, nutrition coach and CEO of <a href=\"https:\/\/measurebackwards.com\/\">Measure Backwards<\/a>. \u201cTo build it, think about a grocery list that is centered around common, center-of-the-plate ingredients. The variety in these meals will help prevent you from getting bored in your nutrition, it will ensure you are constantly eating foods that are consistent with your nutrition goals, it will minimize the amount of food you waste, and it can reduce your <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rentcafe.com\/blog\/apartmentliving\/tips-tricks-renters\/10-things-every-adult-kitchen\/\">cooking<\/a> time when\u00a0you\u00a0meal prep.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2>Drink More Water<\/h2>\n<p>Often, we feel the need to snack when we\u2019re actually thirsty. So, a good goal is to increase water intake and make sure you\u2019re hydrating frequently.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSetting benchmarks for water intake throughout the day is a great way to make sure you\u2019re meeting your fluid requirements,\u201d said <a href=\"https:\/\/www.claudiahleap.com\/\"><strong>Claudia Hleap<\/strong><\/a>, registered dietitian. \u201cStaying hydrated can help with cravings and appetite regulation in the long run. This will satisfy your thirst, which will help your body not confuse it for hunger. If you don\u2019t like plain water, herbal teas or fruit-infused water are a great choice!\u201d<\/p>\n<h2>Be More Aware &amp; Intentional With Your Meals<\/h2>\n<p>To make it easier to pursue a healthy diet, start researching and learning about nutrition.<\/p>\n<p>For instance, <strong>Matt Becher<\/strong>, founder of <a href=\"https:\/\/athleticgrit.com\/\">Athletic Grit<\/a>, shared this healthy eating tip: \u201cIf you don\u2019t have a basic understanding of nutrition, you\u2019ll probably fail to implement a successful meal plan. You\u2019ll waste too much time trying to achieve success through trial and error, which is why I recommend that you invest a little time and money in learning about nutrition.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>However, if you don\u2019t want to do that, then try to really understand your body and what it needs.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe body will naturally ask for the healthy foods that make us feel best,\u201d said weight loss expert <a href=\"https:\/\/weightandbingeeatingsupport.com\/\"><strong>Michelle Hastie<\/strong><\/a>. \u201cIt\u2019s when we are <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rentcafe.com\/blog\/apartmentliving\/lifestyle\/relax-de-stress-apps-we-could-all-use-right-about-now\/\">stressed<\/a>, bored, overwhelmed, unfulfilled or any other negative state that we reach for food that\u2019s not so good for us in the long run. The more time we spend in our bodies, the better chance we have of hearing what it needs. It\u2019s as simple as closing your eyes and focusing on\u00a0your\u00a0breath for five minutes, especially right before you are about to eat. It could be a yoga class to help you connect with your body for a duration of time. If so, eat something nutritious.\u202fThink:\u202fprotein, fruits, veggies,\u201d she said. \u201c2) Am I actually thirsty? If so, drink water! 3) Do I still want that treat? If so, have a moderate portion and really enjoy it. 4) Do I still want more?\u202fLook deeper at what else might be going on that might be causing you to continue to want more.\u202f If we\u2019re already nourished and are still feeling off, we can then dive deeper and see what else is going on \u2014 stress, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rentcafe.com\/blog\/expert-interviews\/expert-interview-managing-emotions-self-isolation\/\">emotions<\/a>, boredom, etc. \u2014 and strive to address that.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2>Create a Schedule &amp; Meal Prep<\/h2>\n<p>\u201cMeal planning is key to eating healthy when working from home,\u201d said personal trainer <a href=\"https:\/\/www.beyondfitnessonline.com\/\"><strong>Bill Daniels<\/strong><\/a>. \u201cTake a white piece of paper or a white board and make a 7&#215;5 grid of boxes. You now have a box for three meals and two snacks for all seven days of the week. Take a few minutes to plan what you will eat for each meal. Over time, you can create recipe cards to just pin up here with a shopping list on it. Now, when you go shopping, you buy only what\u2019s on your menu for the week. This <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rentcafe.com\/blog\/expert-interviews\/expert-financial-advice\/\">saves you money<\/a> because you don\u2019t buy extra things; it saves you stress because you don\u2019t need to figure out what to make for any given meal (especially when you are hungry); it saves you time because you won\u2019t forget to prep something for a meal that day; and it keeps you on track because you can schedule each meal for when you want to eat it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Creating structure is also essential.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe most difficult part of working from home and living in an apartment when it comes to eating is the lack of structure,\u201d said <a href=\"https:\/\/drlisayoung.com\/\"><strong>Dr. Lisa Young<\/strong><\/a>, author of \u201c<em>Finally Full, Finally Slim.<\/em>\u201d\u00a0\u201cSo,\u00a0I urge people to create a structure \u2014 plan when, what and how much you are going to eat, and try to stick to it as best as possible.\u00a0And,\u00a0stay out of the kitchen when it\u2019s not meal or snack times.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>She also adds \u2014 and we cannot stress this enough \u2014 the importance of being kind to yourself.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s a stressful time, so don\u2019t let food create added stress,\u201d Dr. Young said. \u201cDo the best you\u00a0can and\u00a0take it one day at a time!
