Established in the late 1800s, the Dilworth neighborhood is on the National Register of Historic Places, and it is bursting at the seams with vintage charm. Edward Dilworth Latta took 250 acres just outside Charlotte\u2019s original city limits and turned them into a tree-lined neighborhood which became one of the city\u2019s most visited areas today! The mature oaks still flank the streets full of old bungalows, which today are sprinkled with boutiques and modern luxury-style apartment buildings.<\/p>\n

Where is Dilworth?<\/h3>\n

\"Dilworth<\/p>\n

Located to the southwest of Uptown outside the 277 loop, Dilworth is adjacent to South End \u2014 another historic Charlotte neighborhood. Dilworth butts up against Sedgefield on the other side with Sedgefield Park, connecting the two neighborhoods for pedestrians. The main thoroughfare through Dilworth is East Boulevard where you will find most of the restaurants and boutiques.<\/p>\n

History<\/h3>\n

Established in 1890, Dilworth was originally known as the Eighth Ward of Charlotte. Mr. Latta branched out from the original four wards centered around Trade and Tryon banking on the expansion allowed with the electric streetcar. The new streetcar line allowed Charlotteans to move out of the main hub of the city. The Latta Charlotte Street Railway Company began operating its first electric streetcar just two days before Dilworth had its grand opening.<\/p>\n
