Located just south of downtown across Lady Bird Lake, this vibrant neighborhood puts you just outside the city center and <\/span>inside<\/span><\/i> an energetic and eclectic community with quiet streets and plenty to do.<\/span><\/p>\n

Where is Barton Hills, Austin?<\/span><\/h2>\n

Barton Hills is a long, narrow neighborhood that stretches about 4 miles south from Zilker Park. The community is bounded by Capital of Texas Highway to the south, Barton Springs Road to the north (with Zilker Park just beyond), the Zilker neighborhood to the east and MoPac Expressway to the west.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The area encompasses Barton Springs Pool and parts of the Barton Creek Greenbelt, with its hiking and biking trails. Just north of the neighborhood is Zilker Park, which includes the Zilker Park Botanical Garden and major events like the annual Kite Fest and Austin City Limits.<\/span><\/p>\n

History<\/span><\/h2>\n

The <\/span>Barton Hills, Austin, neighborhood<\/span><\/a> has been owned by some of the most famous names in the Austin landscape.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

In the 1830s, William \u201cUncle Billy\u201d Barton bought a large tract of land in what is now South Austin. The land included four natural springs, which he named for his three daughters \u2014 Parthenia, Eliza and Zenobia. Today, we call them Barton Springs.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
