Rents in the largest Texas city saw a year-over-year increase of 1.5%, or $16, compared to this time last year and no change in rent compared to December. San Antonio saw an annual increase of 2.5%, or $25, compared to last January and a decrease of 0.2% ($2) compared to last month. Dallas saw a yearly increase of 3.8%, or $46, and a monthly increase of 0.1% ($1), while the average rent in Austin increased by 4.8% ($65) since last year, and decreased by 0.5% ($7) since last month.<\/p>\n<h3>Renting in Texas in January 2020<\/h3>\n<p>The average rent in\u00a0Texas cities is generally lower than the national average rent. The fastest growing rents in January were in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rentcafe.com\/apartments-for-rent\/the-woodlands-tx\/\">The Woodlands<\/a>, where rental apartment\u00a0prices increased by 1.2% month over month, or $18. <strong>Harlingen<\/strong> and <strong>Edinburg apartments<\/strong>\u00a0saw the second highest monthly increase, jumping by 0.9% and making them $7 and $8, respectively, more expensive than last month. On the other hand, in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rentcafe.com\/apartments-for-rent\/corpus-christi-tx\/\">Corpus Christi<\/a>, <strong>Mission<\/strong> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rentcafe.com\/apartments-for-rent\/pflugerville-tx\/\">Pflugerville<\/a> prices decreased by 0.8% ($8, $7 and $10, respectively) compared to December.<\/p>\n<div style=\"max-width: 700px; margin: 0 auto;\"><script id=\"infogram_0_b55d31a1-7cbc-4d82-bc8d-79f2c2116b44\" title=\"RentCafe_Texas-RentReport-January2020\" src=\"https:\/\/e.infogram.com\/js\/dist\/embed.js?hCo\" type=\"text\/javascript\"><\/script><\/div>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.rentcafe.com\/apartments-for-rent\/flower-mound-tx\/\">Flower Mound apartments<\/a>\u00a0are the state&#8217;s most expensive for renters, with an average rent of $1,617, followed by <strong>apartments in Midland<\/strong>, where the average monthly rent is $1,490. On the other hand, the cheapest city to rent an apartment of the cities analyzed is <strong>Brownsville<\/strong>, with an average apartment rent of $730.<\/p>\n<h3>The January national average rent went up by 3% year-over-year<\/h3>\n<p>The average apartment rent reached $1,463 in January, up $43 since last year, according to apartment data from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.yardimatrix.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Yardi Matrix<\/a>.
