Rents in the largest Pennsylvania city saw a year-over-year increase of 4.7%, or $74, compared to this time last year and a month-over-month decrease of 0.3% ($5) compared to December. Pittsburgh saw an annual increase of 2.3%, or $28, compared to last January and no change in rent compared to last month.<\/p>\n<h3>Renting in Pennsylvania in January 2020<\/h3>\n<p>The average rent in\u00a0Pennsylvania cities is lower than the national average rent. The fastest growing rents in January were in <strong>Easton<\/strong>, where rental apartment\u00a0prices increased by 1.5% month over month, or $20. <strong>Wilkes-Barre apartments<\/strong>\u00a0saw an increase of 1.4% ($14) compared to last month. On the other hand, in <strong>Horsham<\/strong> prices decreased by 1.4% ($17) compared to December.<\/p>\n<div style=\"max-width: 700px; margin: 0 auto;\"><script id=\"infogram_0_d65d562d-d4c6-497b-bbcd-30d17fafc185\" title=\"RentCafe_Pennsylvania-RentReport-January2020\" src=\"https:\/\/e.infogram.com\/js\/dist\/embed.js?BBs\" type=\"text\/javascript\"><\/script><\/div>\n<p><strong>Philadelphia apartments<\/strong>\u00a0are the state&#8217;s most expensive for renters, with an average rent of $1,650, followed by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rentcafe.com\/apartments-for-rent\/king-of-prussia-pa\/\">apartments in King of Prussia<\/a>, where the average monthly rent is $1,646. On the other hand, the cheapest city to rent an apartment of the cities analyzed is <strong>Greensburg<\/strong>, with an average apartment rent of $752, followed by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rentcafe.com\/apartments-for-rent\/upper-darby-pa\/\">Upper Darby<\/a> with $902, both being the only two cities with rents under $1,000.<\/p>\n<h3>The January national average rent went up by 3% year-over-year<\/h3>\n<p>The average apartment rent reached $1,463 in January, up $43 since last year, according to apartment data from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.yardimatrix.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Yardi Matrix<\/a>.
