Where do you like to go when it's raining in San Francisco? It’s been a wild start to the winter weather season in San Francisco this year, and if you’re already tired of riding your bike to work in the rain, I can’t blame you. It’s been blustery and wet out there for what seems like weeks now.

Tahoe has been getting tons of snow, meaning that we’ll have a long and fun ski season all winter long. But all this rain keeps us cooped up inside, which can lead to some grumpy roommates and getting stuck in a rut with your usual bars, restaurants, and coffee shops.

Break out of the funk and try a new place to caffeinate, imbibe or just see and be seen. Here are a few of our favorite places to hang out in SF when it’s raining:

Schmidts – There’s no better time to enjoy a hearty German meal than when the weather is cold and frightful outside, and Schmidt’s has a delightful selection of German beers and wines with which to wash down all that delicious potatoes and spaetzle. You can catch a soccer game and the prices are not too dear.

Lavash – If you haven’t tried this Persian restaurant yet, you should. Not only does it have great Persian food, but a warm and cozy atmosphere that can be romantic on a rainy night. Definitely a best bet spot for date night, and also affordable! Find out why so many customers are repeat visitors and try a unique and delicious cuisine. They are also open for lunch, so beat the rush and go in midday.

Leland Tea Company – Fulfill your loose leaf tea fetish and the Christmas stockings of any tea aficionados on your gift list at this beautiful and welcoming store at Bush and Polk Streets. They also have a full tea menu, so sit, sip and enjoy tea sandwiches, scones and other delightful baked goods. You’ll likely leave feeling refined and relaxed.
