If you’re a young professional working in the Loop looking for a convenient commute, or you just want a place close to it all, just not in the middle of the “action”, the West Loop might just be what you’re looking for. It’s also perfect for young families with kids because it’s rather safe and everything’s so close by or at least easily accessible by mass transit. Especially now that we have our own Morgan ‘L’ station to brag about, on the green & pink lines.
I really enjoy the neighborhood’s proximity to Grant Park and the fact that I am so close to the Pitchfork Music Festival every summer. Plus there are plenty of outdoor activities that you can engage in here like watching a movie outdoors, playing soccer, picnicking, or just lounging around, having fun. As an alternative to beat the heat this summer you can drop by Skinner Park pool (Whitney Young) or Altgeld Park Pool nearby, or just head to one of our 24 beaches along the Lake’s magnificent waterfront.
Mixing vibrant city life with strong community bonds, the neighborhood is abounding with great diners and varied cuisine, ranging from cozy, locally-owned eateries, to ethnic restaurants and upscale dining destinations. The Taste of Randolph Street is a recurring event that draws thousands of people every summer to the West Loop for scrumptious food, great music and unlimited fun.
If you’re a fan of authentic Greek cuisine, the Parthenon at 314 S Halsted St is not to be missed; their saganaki is super tasty and their gyros fantastic. The Publican is also located here, in the burgeoning Fulton Market District, to offer an exquisite dining experience to any guest crossing their threshold. Featuring succulent pork and fish/seafood dishes, the restaurant showcases an eclectic menu inspired by simple farmhouse fare in a space evocative of a European beer hall.
The West Loop provides a large variety of housing options; there are plenty of good apartments around, offering spacious floor plans and convenient amenities, on-site laundry facilities and parking spaces. 20 years ago things were totally different here, but now the whole area has a positive vibe, bustling with newcomers and new developments breaking ground. Many of the old warehouses and industrial buildings have been totally revamped and transformed into comfortable loft condominiums. And this is just the beginning.
