Apartment or rental living typically means you’re forced to give up the small luxuries that homeowners usually take for granted. Drilling a hole in the wall to mount the flat screen, or ripping down that hideous wallpaper can likely mean pricey repercussions when the lease is up. Rather than worrying about the landlords’ panic attack on move-out day, there are other ways to make that rental feel more like a home of your own.
Nothing makes a place feel more like a home than the liveliness of green plant-life, growing floral arrangements and fresh herbs and spices grown fresh at your own Phoenix apartment home. Frequently the prospects of nurturing a garden is thrown out the window when living in a rental property either due to space restrictions or the inevitability of having to abandon all that hard work on move out day. Not to fear, you can have that great garden too!
Swinging by an old antique mall or the right yard sale you should have an easy time picking up an old distressed dresser or bookshelf. Simply fill the drawers or shelves with the appropriate soil and plant whatever you’d like; plant vegetables on the lower levels, pops of flowers midway and some tasty, fresh herbs up top! Not only is this a compact way to build a garden but also much easier to move when the time comes than uprooting all of the plants individually.
A great idea for apartment living equipped with a small balcony or patio if lucky, rummaging behind your local grocery store could score an old wooden pallet. Set it upright and fill in the slots with potting soil and your plants. You’ll have all the plant life you could want while occupying the least amount of precious square footage possible!
