Uptown is one of Dallas' hottest neighborhoods.

Uptown is one of Dallas' hottest neighborhoods.Looking for a new place to live in Dallas? If you want to rely on your own two feet for much of your transportation needs, the Uptown neighborhood is sure to be a best bet.

The neighborhood gets a “very walkable” score of 88 on walkscore.com, which assesses the available services, businesses, public parks and schools and transit offerings of the communities it rates.

The area is considered a successful example of “New Urbanism,” a city design scheme that attempts to get people out of their cars, out of the suburbs, and encourage them to live, shop and work all in the same general neighborhood.

Uptown is popular with young professionals and includes the sub-neighborhoods of State Thomas, West Village, LoMac, McKinney Ave. and Harwood.

Much of uptown is developed with high-rise buildings, including apartment and office towers, but there are areas within it, particularly State Thomas, that include landmark historic Victorian-style homes.

Great restaurants, coffee shops, bars and other food stores are easy to come by in the Uptown neighborhood, and there are convenient cultural venues not far away. The Gallery Walk District is full of art galleries and intriguing shops.

A streetcar – the M-Line – and light rail DART Blue and Red Lines both serve the neighborhood.

Apartments in the area include amenities like fitness centers, swimming pools, media rooms, entertaining areas, off-street parking, concierge and doorman services, and much more.
