A good move with a special needs child

Although I have only lived in a limited amount of time, I have certainly enjoyed my time here. I moved from my own condo because I needed to accommodate my son, who is special needs and in a stroller. My son needed wide doors, a first floor apt and a wide bathroom. My only issue, is we do not have a handicap accessible shower and this has made it a challenge to bath my 12 yr old son. I currently have a shower chairlift but it won't last for long and a move in shower would not only help me, my son but any future handicap person looking to care for themselves. Individuals with challenges like caring for themselves and there needs to be more handicap accessible bathrooms or a compromise to have a walk in shower installed. If I could have this feature, my life would be so much better in helping me to care for my son and I'm sure any person looking to rent this apartment would certainly appreciate this feature. We must begin to think about the population of disabled person with limited mobility because they do want to be independent and our society appears to not want them to be or, at least, does not willingly promote their support of independence. The pond, the staff, the maintenance person, and the community have been wonderful for us and we are adjusting to our life but wish we had a walk in shower. Thank you again for being a great team of people, you've made me believe again - that do care!
