Living in Rio Vista, TX

They say that everything is bigger in Texas, but it may not be true in Rio Vista, TX. In fact, renters might just blink and miss this little town in Johnson County. That said, renters who are looking for the perfect place to get away from it all and who long for a slower pace of life will appreciate this quiet corner of the world. Nevertheless, renters can still have access to big-city amenities whenever it suits their fancy because Rio Vista is also about halfway between Waco and the Dallas-Fort Worth metropolitan area — both urban centers located approximately an hour away from this small city. Even so, Rio Vista is home to a quiet, yet tight-knit community. The cost of living in Rio Vista is also on par with the national average, making it slightly higher than the rest of the Lone Star state. Renters with young children who are considering moving to Rio Vista should keep in mind that the quality of schools in Rio Vista leaves something to be desired. In addition, like other places in central Texas, tornadoes are a common occurrence in Rio Vista, particularly in the spring.

The average rent in Rio Vista is on par with the average for the rest of Texas, placing it below the national average and making finding an apartment for rent in Rio Vista an affordable alternative to the rest of the Dallas-Fort Worth-Arlington metropolitan area. Notably, rental laws in Texas do not set a maximum amount for a security deposit, but most landlords charge renters the equivalent of one to two months’ rent to secure a property.

Things for renting

Shopping in Rio Vista, TX

Renters moving to Rio Vista should know that the small town is relatively isolated and that they may need to drive some distance to find what they need to stock the kitchen of their rental apartment or go on a shopping spree. Granted, Dollar General and several convenience stores and gas stations allow for an in-town trip to supply last-minute essentials. However, most Rio Vista renters head to the nearby town of Cleburne, TX — a short, 10-minute drive away — to access all of the necessities. In Cleburne, renters can find many familiar national and regional supermarket chains, including Kroger, H-E-B, Albertson’s, Aldi and Walmart, as well as several Hispanic grocery stores. Cleburne is also home to the Nolan River shopping mall, which features the typical national retailers and eateries for renters to enjoy.
