Roommate lessons from Game of Thrones

If you’re as excited as I am about the second season of Game of Thrones then you’ve probably already blown through the entire series of George R.R. Martin’s fabulous fantasy novels.

Despite weighing in at near 1,000 pages apiece each, the books are a beautifully constructed tapestry of characters, adventures and imagination that grip you tightly from the get-go.

Along the way you’re enthralled by a world that includes zombie-like walking dead, a vast northern world covered in snow, creatures called direwolves and shadowcats, and a caste system of powerful families with complicated allegiances.

So, what does this have to do with you and your roommate? Hopefully you don’t see your roommate in a GoT character.  But if you do, I suggest finding a Godswood, stat, and pray that things go a bit easier on you than they have thus far for the most beloved characters.

Game-of-Thrones-TyrionTyrion – Your roommate is a cut up who is always cracking a joke. They might be very smart but they hide it under a veil of sarcastic humor. They’ve got a chip on their shoulder towards the whole world and they might tend toward unanticipated acts of violence involving crossbows. Lock the door when you go to the bathroom.

Dany Game of ThronesDany – Your roommate is a lover who will go to any lengths to protect those they care about. A lover of the finer things in life, they likely enjoy shopping, travel and unusual pets. If she’s hot, maybe you can get her to wear one of those one-breast-exposed outfits next Halloween.

Game of Thrones CerseiCersei – Your roommate is consumed with ambition and will do anything to get ahead. Watch your back at all times. Also, when her brother comes over, you might want to find an excuse to be out of the apartment. She’s probably single and says things like “The more people you love, the weaker you are.”

Lord Snow from Game of ThronesJon Snow – Your roommate is a pretty good guy. He’s chosen to be celibate which is darn strange considering how many women are swooning over him all the time. He’s got a strange relationship with his dad and likes to play a lot of war-themed video games.

Who is your favorite Game of Thrones character? Will you be watching the second season of the show?

I would want Eddard Stark for a roommate, but I guess that’s not possible now. :(
