Sunny Venice of America Takes on a Contemporary Flair: 10 Now-and-Then Photos of Fort Lauderdale’s Changing Skyline

Fort Lauderdale Skyline Changes

A favorite relocation destination of sun-seekers from all over the country – if not the world – Fort Lauderdale continues to attract more people as it adds contemporary, new affordable residential buildings and thriving businesses to its summery climate. Dubbed the Venice of America, the city was rated as having one of the Top 10 Best Downtowns by Livability.com. The hip tropical feel of downtown and the city’s lively riverfront are transforming this once quiet area into an extension of neighboring Miami’s sought-after scene.

Boasting an enviable infrastructure and a stunning waterfront location along the Atlantic, Fort Lauderdale has slowly evolved into one of the hottest real estate markets in the US. After bottoming out in 2008, construction has picked up and taken off. Many new office and apartment complexes are transforming the skyline, especially along the New River. The municipality is also riding the construction wave, with the development of a replacement courthouse complex.
