Cocktails worthy of the Stanley Cup

hockey puck and stick on ice rinkFill Stanley’s cup, your momma’s cup, and anyone else’s cup with these themed drinks.

As an adult hockey fan, I find it hard to find themed decorations and ideas that aren’t completely lame. Most themed decorations are catered towards the age group that is still stoked about their first chest hair. My friends and I are, well, a bit over that.

Skip the cheesy hockey kitsch at the local party store and set up your party with what matters: good drinks. We’ve found a few delicious drink recipes with names you’ll enjoy.

The Slap Shot

  • 2 shots of tequila
  • 4oz of club soda
  • 4oz of Kool-Aid in your team’s color (Penguins or Flyers this year)
  • 2 teaspoons of pop rocks

Okay, I just joked about childish party stuff and I’m telling you to make a cocktail using Kool-Aid and pop rocks. So sue me. But it’s delicious. Prepare the Kool-Aid and measure out half a glass (about 4 oz). Add 4 oz of club soda and two tequila shots. Top off the concoction with the pop rocks and enjoy the party in your mouth.

Stanley's Cup Shaved Ice CocktailStanley’s Cup

  • 1 heaping tablespoon of shaved ice
  • 6oz gin
  • Your favorite colored liqueur

This drink is best shaken, not stirred. No, really. Combine all ingredients into a shaker and there you have it. Pick a liqueur in one of your team’s colors but be sure that it combines well with gin! For neutral parties, grenadine works well.

The Big Stick

  • .5oz Peach Schnapps
  • .5oz Southern Comfort
  • .5oz Sloe gin

Pour fluids over crushed ice and accent with mint, to taste. The South isn’t known for its stellar hockey teams so at least they can contribute an excellent beverage to the cause.
