New beer attempts to topple PBR from hipster brew throne
Jeppe Jarnit-Bjergsø, brewmaster at Evil Twin Brewing, is about to launch a new line called Hipster Ale. Previously responsible for one-shot batch Williamsburg Hipster and a couple others in the same vein, Hipster Ale is a “global ale” designed to appeal to the too-school-for-cool crowd the world over.
I don’t see this appealing at all to the target audience. Who designed those cans, they look terrible. And there’s nothing hipsters back away from faster than something that’s pre-sold as for the cool kids. But just in case you are interested, Evil Twin Brewing is distributed by Twelve Percent – here is their lineup of outlets, including locations in Philadelphia and Chicago.
Hipster-themed list incites frantic commenting
The folks at LA Weekly got together to brainstorm linkbait and came up with The 20 Worst Hipster Bands. Fair enough, here’s the tl;dr version:
20. The Black Keys

19. TV On The Radio
18. Sleigh Bells
17. Fun.
16. MGMT
15. Death Cab For Cutie
14. Wavves
13. The Decemberists
12. Pomplamoose
11. Edward Sharpe and The Magnetic Zeros
10. White Rabbits
9. Beach House
8. The Airborne Toxic Event
7. Ariel Pink’s Haunted Graffiti
6. Beirut
5. Grizzly Bear
4. Bright Eyes
3. Arcade Fire
2. tUnE-yArDs
1. Bon Iver
1200+ comments and hundreds of inbound links later… mission accomplished! Not much to argue with here, but I have a couple comments. How is Death Cab For Cutie only #15? If Ben Gibbard and Zooey Deschanel were still married would they rank higher? And how does Washed Out not make the list? I mean, they even made a splashy appearance on the Portlandia soundtrack, doesn’t that win them an automatic entry?
I love Ariel Pink’s Haunted Graffiti and I don’t care who knows it:
