Hours of summer happiness in a hammock
It’s the one purchase you should make before summer officially arrives, and it will bring you hours of lounging bliss on your patio or balcony. You might even want to sleep in it on a nice warm night as it cradles your body as effortlessly as can be.
It’s not a Barcalounger .. it’s a hammock.
If you’ve experienced the perfection of the hammock experience, you probably recall the pleasant sensation of being suspended weightless in the air as gentle breezes rocked you back and forth. Maybe you read a book or took a nap, perhaps you daydreamed while gazing at the bright blue sky.
When life gets hectic and the world puts overwhelming demands upon you, your hammock is the perfect place at your apartment to retreat and hide out for awhile. All you need are two sturdy points from which to hang it and a nearby spot on which to rest your beverage of choice. Sunscreen and a hat are a good idea, too.. you might be here awhile.
Here are some of the hottest hammocks on the market right now. You can take your pick between the ritzy and roughing it.
The old-fashioned rope hammock – The quintessential white rope hammock is the one you were most likely to have had at home as a kid. If you take a nap in it you might end up with some funk rope marks on your skin. Nevertheless, it’s light and airy and still the best selling hammock on the market. Can be used with a stand if you don’t have available support posts. I, personally, got mine from Nags Head Hammocks. It is a pricey investment for the average renter, but if you are dedicated to naps in the sun like I am, it is worth it!
The tropical woven hammock – Can’t make it to Cancun or Tahiti this year? Take your own little tropical vacation in the backyard with a Mayan-style tropical woven hammock. You’ll feel like you’re far away from it all while relaxing in its colorful embrace.
The quilted hammock – If you really want to nap in your hammock, the quilted option is probably the best bet. No rope marks to worry about and you’ll be even more comfortable than you are in your own bed. Take a pillow and test it out!
The decidedly non-tacky hammock – This ritzy option is the one you’ll be most likely to find on the rooftop of you well-appointed urban apartment building. The only drawback is that you’ll probably have to arm wrestle the other residents for the chance to take a nap in it. Good luck!
