Tap into your ability to see old things through a fresh perspective with this cool bird cage-style headboard. An old gate was given a new take on life. For the bird cage effect, use a length of wiring wider than the gate frame. Permit the wiring to bow outward slightly before securing it to the frame. The base of the gate is supported by a salvaged door.

Corrugated steel looks remarkably sexy when cut to create an elegant headboard. While the material is relatively inexpensive, you can save more money by recycling a piece from a stockyard and painting it yourself. The shine is fabulous in my opinion but for a more demure look, tone it down with clear coat of matte finish spray paint.

This rustic headboard crafted of a salvaged barn gate door can be easily recreated using fresh planks from the hardware store if no wrecked barns are nearby. Paint the wood slate gray and mist it with a lighter gray coat to mimic the look. Distress the wood with knicks from a hammer or another piece of wood.
