As Thursday night takes over, the scenery changes. The same space, populated by white robes during sunlight, now looks different; a new provocative atmosphere infiltrates in the minds of the curious party people, toasting tasty cocktails and smiling unhurried. No children laughing, no pudic behavior, just DJs spinning records on new themes every week. Pass by the butterflies as they spread their colorful wings, watch the white albino alligator minding its own business while jellyfish and African penguins don’t know they share the same space.
On July 19th, the Mixology, Mixtapes and Remixes event will bring the mixologists at Cocktail Lab play their magic using seasonal ingredients, while the San Francisco Mixtape Society will host a mixtape swap – bring your own – on the theme of Night Creatures. All this while you’re walking through the rainforests of the world, go through the new exhibit hall of earthquakes, get lost in the Planetarium universe, or simply enjoy the artistry of Dan the Automator in the Piazza (you know him as the co-founder of Gorillaz).
July 26th is a tribute to runners, celebrating the Wipro San Francisco Marathon. While you delectate with the soul/boogie of DJs Gordo Cabeza & Timoteo Gigante you can also relax with a deep tissue massage in the African Hall or learn why ostriches are the fastest animals on two feet. Participate in “Messier’s Marathon” by looking at some of the 110 deep sky objects documented by the famous astronomer and watch the screenings on Earthquake: Evidence of a Restless Planet. Or simply enjoy your cocktail, dance, do something new on a Thursday night.
