The best of cinema arrives at the 34th annual Mill Valley Film Festival
This October, haul yourself and a pair of anything-but-3D-glasses over the Golden Gate and stop by the Mill Valley Film Festival. This is one festival that is all about the filmmakers and their art – with no competition or panel, just movies and good ones too!
Courtesy of the California Film Institute, The 34th edition of this 11-day festival boasts a series of great movies that convey more than meets the eye, which is funny because…oh, you get it!
So please don’t act like Jeff Who Lives at Home -the Duplass brothers’ latest feature is probably the one that confirms their exit from the mumblecore movement which they helped establish – come on down. Jeff is played by upcoming Muppet-master Jason Segel. I won’t let a lot transpire… but it’s a comedy, and a good one at that.
Also, you really have to take a walk to the Valley of the Docs, the festival’s special documentary selection. Documentarians have put some great stuff on celluloid, or digital, don’t neglect this art form or the many gems showing this year.
Partake in a stroll and make your way to the amazing flicks that will be playing at the CineArts@Sequoia, 142 Throckmorton Theatre, Century Cinema and Christopher B. Smith Rafael Film Center.
The closing affair is going to be a little movie called, The Artist. The Cannes favorite will play at this year’s closing gala so… Shush please! A solid cast turns amazing performances in the story of a silent film star at the start of the talkie movement in filmmaking. Refrain from your “ooooos” and “ahhhhs” until after the showing since this is also a silent film!
The Mill Valley Film Festival stretches from the 6th to the 16th this year at the above-mentioned venues. I’m no Roger Ebert, but I think it’s worth it.
