Music at Mezzanine defies logical labels

Mezzanine at 444 Jessie Street is the kind of venue that doesn’t settle for one type of music – and that can make it hard to define. With recognition for Best Live Music Night 2006 by the SF Weekly, Best New Club 2004 by the SF Weekly, and Best Dance Club 2004 by the SF Weekly Reader’s Poll, it’s clear that the club has had a heyday as a local hotspot – but none of the honors are recent. That doesn’t mean, however, that the groove times have passed.

From its beginning Mezzanine has focused on building a new home in San Francisco for both the artist and the concert patron. The space was remodeled to add dressing rooms (with private bath, kitchen and laundry facilities), a plush artist reception area – the Green Room –, a permanent hardwood stage for bands, art/fashion shows and DJs, and a private, elegant, and discreetly positioned soundproof VIP area.

The venue’s most valuable asset is probably the installation of a custom-built lighting and sound system for both live and electronic music. The club has 12,000 square feet on two levels with four plush mezzanine lounges with seating booths overlooking the main dance floor, including a glass-enclosed space with its own DJ. It can accommodate up to 1,000 people and offers cool amenities like 5 full-service bars, indoor/outdoor smoking lounge, and a 2,000 square feet cushioned dance floor. Leg-fatigue, no more!

This is a global destination for live music, hosting events for some of the best talents in music today. LCD Soundsystem, Adam Freeland, Nas, Mos Def, Fischerspooner, Carl Craig, Blonde Redhead, Justice, Method Man, The Faint, The Dandy Warhols, Thievery Corporation, Method Man, Booka Shade, The Buzzcocks, Chemical Brothers, The English Beat, Public Enemy, The Slits, Hot Chip, The Knife, Miss Kittin, Dan The Automator, 2ManyDJs, Soulwax, DJ AM, Junkie XL, Lupe Fiasco, Ladytron… and they don’t stop here. Mezzanine is an adaptable space that can be divided into smaller, more intimate spaces for private events. They’re offering a full-service professional event staff and all the services needed for small gatherings and for large scale productions including product launches, photography/video shoots, fashion and art shows, film screenings, corporate receptions, sit-down dinners, and dances parties.
