Healthy meals delivered to your Philadelphia door? Genius!

healthy bitesIt’s all lies: we don’t have time to cook, so eating greasy fast food and going out to eat every night are our best alternatives. We look at our expanding waistlines and clogging arteries and think, “It’s just a fact of life.” Think again. Philadelphia residents can now have healthy, cooked meals delivered right to our apartments. No more excuses.

“But, but, I bet they can’t accommodate my special diet!” you protest. Wrong again. If you want gluten free, vegetarian, diabetic-friendly, allergen free, colon cleansing, or all organic there is a delivery service for you. What’s better is that many of these services are just as affordable as dining out. Sometimes cheaper!

Each service differs. Many allow a broad range of flexibility: you can order one meal, a week of meals, a month of meals and so forth. Ordering online can make the process quick and easy.

Healthy Bites is a local company that delivers “good for you food.” When possible, ingredients are locally sourced so that you can support a local business and local farmers. Meals are made on the same day that they are delivered (no freeze dried, preservative-steeped junk).

Katie Cavuto Boyle is the owner. As a chef and registered dietician, Cavuto Boyle has experience with creating meals that are delicious, nutritious and convenient. There are no delivery fees! You can order breakfast, lunch, dinner, or an assortment of combinations on an as-needed or weekly basis.

What can you eat? The menu offers about 25 options that can be customized according to your diet. Meals are available in single servings or family portions.

Non-local delivery options include:

Paleta- farm to table, organic fare

 Healthy Chef Creations- organic meals

The Fresh Diet – gourmet food to promote weight loss

    Hi Rentcafe,
On a similar note,, Here is a great healthy recipe that not many people have tried – Fried Yucca!

Yucca contains a high amount of vitamin C and carbohydrates. It is also a good source of dietary fiber and contains approximately 120 calories per 1 cup serving.

1 pound fresh yucca (cassava), cut into 3-inch sections and peeled

In a pot combine the yucca with enough cold water to cover it by 1 inch. Boil then slowly simmer the yucca for 20 to 30 minutes, or until it is tender.
    Preheat oven to 350 F.
Transfer the yucca with a slotted spoon to a cutting board, let it cool, and cut it lengthwise into 3/4-inch-wide wedges, discarding the thin woody core.
Spray cookie sheet with the nonstick cooking oil spray. Spread yucca wedges on cookie sheet. Cover with foil and bake for 8 minutes. Uncover and return to oven to bake for 7 minutes.

Season with butter and salt alone is fine.

    Kindest Regards
