While it’s not quite State Fair time yet, you can get geared up and ready at the North Texas State Fair and Rodeo in Denton. It has all the usuals: live music, rodeo shenanigans, a chili cook-off and carnival rides. The nine-day event kicks off August 17 and runs through August 25.

The Bath House Cultural Center is presenting a play that looks worth a look-see, or at least has an awesome premise. Made in Argentina follows Mabel and Osvaldo, two Argentinians living in exile in the US that return to Argentina after being absent 10 years.

For a play that’s a little more classic, Stage West in Fort Worth is presenting Around the World in 80 Days August 16 – September 23. In case you aren’t familiar with the synopsis, a man and his “manservant” (their words, not mine) embark on a journey to circle the world in 80 days to win a bet. Misadventures ensue.

To add a little spice to your life, (as if you need any, right?) it’s hatch chili season! Once a year these New Mexican peppers flood supermarkets and chili pots alike until the bounty runs out, usually after a couple of weeks. Central Market always has plenty of hatch chilies to buy fresh as well as about a million different things featuring this heat-tastic pepper (like hatch chili queso). Blue Mesa in Addison is also celebrating Wednesday (August 22) with a special Hatch Chili Dinner Party (which is really just another word for “buffet”). The green beauties will be the star attraction.
