DFW’s window of prime patio weather can be fleeting. Sometimes it comes early, sometimes it’s a little late. The moral of the story is: enjoy the nice weather while it lasts! The sweltering days of summer are drawing to a close, hopefully ushering in cooler fall days. DFW has no shortage of patios to chillax, enjoy a frosty beverage and soak up some mild weather. Here are some of the better places to enjoy it while it lasts.

If you’re in Uptown, pretty much any of the places on McKinney Avenue just south of West Village have prime patio seating, like Bread Winners and Primo’s. The McKinney Avenue Tavern is a sports bar with an equally excellent patio. Hop over to the gayborhood and visit the Grapevine Bar for a large patio with a half court basketball court, covered seating and lattice work covered by actual grape vines. You can also have a brew after (hey, or before) going for a jog at the Katy Trail Ice House, located right on the Katy Trail with ample picnic table seating that’s dog friendly.

For Dallas’ oldest, coolest bar with outdoor seating, check out Lee Harvey’s in the Cedars. The bonfire and older-than-sin beer signs make Lee Harvey’s extra special.

If you head up north, the Londoner (Dallas’ favorite ex-pat hangout) has large patio complete with porch swings. The Londoner patio is also dog friendly. Going even further north, Obzeet (at Preston and George Bush) has a great patio with ample seating, a koi pond and fountain and kitschy (but somehow still cool) fake flowers lining the walls.

In Fort Worth, Joe T. Garcia’s has some of the best patio seating in town, although the house ‘ritas are made with Everclear so, you know, keep that in mind. The Gingerman also has a nice patio that’s dog friendly and has misters and heaters for when the weather isn’t ideal.

While Jake’s hamburger joints littered around the metroplex are medium on food, most of their locations have especially large and comfortable patios, and they usually have pretty good drink specials to boot.
