Best bars for Dallas’ signature drink

Did you know that the margarita, that delicious concoction of tequila, citrus, sugar, ice and salt, was created right here in Dallas? Okay, okay, of course you did. But how is your knowledge of the best places in the city to drink these amazing blends of tart and sweetness? Yes, it may be winter now, but here in Texas it is margarita time all year round.

We took an impromptu poll and got some recommendations for the best places to sip and savor a margarita in the greater Dallas region. Here are some sure-to-impress favorites:

Desperados Mexican Restaurant, 4818 Greenville Ave. Known for their tacos and house margaritas, which are a steal at $2 apiece on Wednesday nights.

Gloria’s Restaurant, 3715 Greenville Ave. 3223 Lemmon Ave and 600 N. Bishop Ave. It’s almost always happy hour at Gloria’s, as long as it is Sunday to Thursday and they’re open. Voted best margarita by the readers of the Dallas Observer for the last two years.

Iron Cactus Mexican Grill and Margarita Bar, 1520 Main Street, is a huge and super visible downtown restaurant popular with out of town visitors. Get a great view of the city from the rooftop patio. Small house margaritas are $3 during weekday happy hour.

Mi Cocina, multiple Dallas locations, is known for their specialty variety margaritas. Uptown at 3699 McKinney is said to be a very happening spot, but can be loud and raucous too. The Mambo Taxi is the signature cocktail, but watch out. They’re said to be rather lethal in more than small quantities. Designate a driver, or call a cab, if you’re going to be Taxi-ing at Mi Cocina .. or drinking at any of these local establishments.
