You will need to be mindful to purchase toilet paper that is rated for septic tanks and avoid flushing feminine hygiene products–or you could find yourself with a yard flooded with human waste.
You must stay on top of your landlord about maintenance. Many apartment communities have regularly scheduled maintenance visits or give the units a checkup at the end of every lease. Rental homes can come with much more relaxed terms, meaning that the needs of the property are addressed on an as-needed bases. You may not have 24/7 support, either.
If a problem persists, avoid tampering with maintenance issues on your own without the consent of the landlord. This could lead to liability issues for you as well as mounting expenses that should be your landlord’s responsibility. It will be important to establish responsibilities during the lease negotiations.
While privacy and noise control have their perks, first time home renters are faced with the issue of isolation. Before, you may have been surrounded by people on all side. You’d have to pass them on the way up the stairwell. You could choose to join them at a fitness class in the community center. Single-family property renters may have to work harder to meet people in the new community and establish friendships.
