April is Jazz Appreciation Month

jazz singer on grunge backgroundThis April is Jazz Appreciation Month. Actually, every April is Jazz Appreciation Month because that’s how months work. Jazz Appreciation Month abbreviates to ‘JAM’ which I have to admit is really cool… Synth-Pop Appreciation Month is pretty jealous about that. If you don’t already appreciate jazz, now is a great time to start.

What is jazz? I’m not really sure. I have Thong Song by Sisqó on my iPod but I don’t have any jazz songs, so right away I think we can agree that I make a poor spokesman for JAM; I also have Snow’s Informer on there, which means I make a poor spokesman for the human race. I can give you a link to official JAM fests all over the world, is that cool? You go to an outdoor jazz venue with good weather and a picnic basket and some friends, you’ve got a pretty good time on your hands. Just like a Cialis commercial.

Speaking of Cialis, for many people jazz is an integral part of sexy time. For me, Thong Song is an integral part of sexy time. It’s been almost 10 years since sexy time and me have been in the same room together, so a switch to jazz might be overdue. I’ll let you know how it goes.

‘Jazz hands’ get a bum rap, just sayin’…

Want to be an authentic part of spreading the gospel during Jazz Appreciation Month? The Smithsonian Institution (not ‘Institute’ like I thought and originally typed before I did a quick check using the Google search field word completer) has a bunch of ideas about how you can be true to the jazz game.
